Hijack?
So just a couple of minutes ago I got a message from one of my friends saying someone was playing tf2 with my username. At first I though it was someone that hated me but when going back on steam I had to log back in. Could this a bad sign? As of right now I have Steam Guard for a good year, just changed my password, I have never clicked on any links ever on steam and it seems like nothing was taken. Should I really be worried and is there any other precautions I should take to be really safe

Valve offers the option to use 2 factor authentication so any time you type your password it asks you for a code that is available through the steam mobile app. You can change your visible steam username at any time, just not the login name. I have at least one unknown account who impersonates me at all times. The clan tag on that imposter is out of date but if you search my name you will find two accounts, when I only own one.

As long as you haven't given your credentials to a phishing site, it should be fine. Did your 'friend' say whether it was your account? Chances are your friend's account could be baiting you for a scam as it might be hijacked. You should check your login history too but also bear in mind the geoloaction data isn't always accurate there but login times could be a crucial identifier.

usernames can not be changed, are unique and should not be known by anyone but the account owner.

Profile names are NOT unique, can be changed to anything and are not used for identification.

So, which are you talking about? Any profile can have any name, it means nothing.
