Why Steam is so eager about collecting personal data is beyond me.
New tax rules for internet transactions since the beginning of the year. Mainly the USA, Europe and some other parts of the world.
They are required by law to collect that data.
I dont really see the problem, its just your billing address. Its the same you have to fill in when ordering something on Amazon or Ebay.
I filled in these info when making my account 8 years ago and never heard anything from Steam after that.
Amazon is a good idea, thanks for the suggestion. They already have my data. It's just that I'd like to keep it at a minimum. Thanks for understanding.
What's the big deal if they already have it? Just confirm it's upto date. Any other site will be required to ask for the same data. may not happen right no but it will be required by all retailers eventually anyway.
Oh and I have very particular over sharing my data. I just bought a new monitor and paid more to purchase it from somewhere I already use rather than somewhere I don't just so I'm not sharing my data with yet another company.
I think you misunderstood. I was talking about Amazon. They have contact information such as address. Steam doesn't. I'd like to keep it that way.
Anonymity is a privilege and while it may be true that at some point everyone will request such information, that doesn't mean that I should throw it away at the first occassion.
Either way, the question has been answered :)
But GOG works just as it's supposed to. You select your games, enter the PIN codes from the coupons and are done. Since I had problems finding a game related site that could work that simple, I added this bit of information here, in case someone else is looking for it in the future.
