regional restrictions confusion
I'm trying to send a gift to someone in america from UK (roughly 0.80 pounds to the dollar)
Yet it tells me i cannot send it due to regional price differences.

However, i tried with a friend from australia (0.52 poind to aud) which is an even bigger price difference and i can send a gift successfully????

I don't get it, can someone explain?

You're throwing 2 different concepts in one bag: currency exchange rate & game prices. Game prices aren't the same as currency exchange rate!

if something is £10 in the UK it would be roughly 15 aud in austtalia no? the exchange rate will determine the price i expect?

No, the exchange rate isn't what determines the price. The strength of the economy does. Switzerland, for example, is considered a rich country to the point of meals costing 3x the price they cost here, despite the Swiss Frank being worth almost exactly the same in Euro (1€=1,06€ at the time of writing this). Did you really, seriously, ever expect things to cost the same all over the world? Take a country with a median income of 4k€/month and a country with a median income of about 7k€/year. Do you think it's fair for games (or anything, really) in those two countries to cost the same? Really?
And perhaps more directly to the point, look up the game on SteamDB. It'll show its price in the different regions.

You can check the game price here - https://steamdb.info/

For instance Baldurs Gate 3 pricing - https://steamdb.info/app/1086940/

America - $59.99
UK - $62.88
Australia - $59.41

There would be no issues with that game as its priced consistently

Compared to Disgaea - https://steamdb.info/app/405900/

America - $19.99
UK - $18.85
Australia - $15.88

So in this case there would be issues gifting to/from Australia as the price difference is more then 10%. No issue between the US and the UK though
I dont know why valve developers dont have a single brain cell working left.

Its not that hard, just let the person gifting pay the higher price instead of blocking the transaction.

Must be fun to work at valve huh, they must accept just about anyone

And imagine how quickly they'd get sued for bait and switch when the courts learn that Steam is charging customers higher than advertised prices.

You know Australia has to have a law against that.
