Steam Input Record That
Edit:
I'd like to add that you can put the set-up in the Guide Button Chord instead. It then works across Windows. It's neat because if you want to use the capture button for something else in a particular game, you can (even by default) use Guide + Capture to record a Steam screenshot.

I've uploaded a save called `[NS] [Game Bar] Record That and Start/Stop Recording support` (iirc, it might have a slightly different name) that can be accessed in Big Picture Mode > Settings > Controller > Guide Button Chord > the large button that has your current selection > Community Layouts.

So this has gone from a help post to a tips post, which is why I love the Steam forums.

Original:

G'day,

I have a Steam Input (SI) set up in System where if I long-press the capture button of my Switch controller, it will send Win + Alt + G. This works across the system in software that Game Bar recognises (I tested it with Minecraft), but it does not work in games that I'm using Steam Input for.

The set-up looks like this:

Long-press Capture
Windows Key, then
Alt, then
G

Which is the combination for Record That in the Game Bar.

So what it looks like is that the game's SI overwrites System's SI and the set-up doesn't work. I tested this by removing the screenshot input from the game SI, thereby trying to rely on System's SI for the screenshot button. It did not work which is bad because that means that the set-up isn't even part of SI when I'm running the game.

I'd also like to mention that the set-up does not work when it is part of the game's SI because the button combination being sent to the game instead of to Windows. This was my first obstacle and seems to be a limitation of Steam Input.

I found [this post from three years ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/ilqkl6/how_to_record_gameplay_with_a_controller_only/), but it doesn't help me because it seems like the game in question has a record feature. The [Game Bar comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/ilqkl6/comment/g3ufig0/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) does not mention my issue.

A question that could be answered to solve my problem is, ‘How do I send an SI unit to Windows instead of the game?’. Another solution would come from ‘How do I let the System's SI run when I'm in-game?’.
