why does disk error happen and can't be fixed (solved)

i had a lot of games have this error. i did the repair>verify>clear downloads>and reinstall in the same file to patch it but it just bugs out and say disk error again even with the game file still there.

forced to reinstall the games from scratch.


i try to think what is can be but idk, idk if the driver is bad tbh


edit: the beta for steam is broken and not moving the download files to main after a update or during and freezing mid update. do not use the beta and report it. i can't believe i lost so many games and just never knew.

failing drive, driver issue, bad OS install, messed up file permissions in the OS or overzealous file protection (folder in program files on windows for instance, with DEP enabled)

but how can i install stuff on it but it struggles to update games.

Depends on which is the cause:
Failing drive, might have no issues writing but its failing to read that sector, or the opposite
Driver issue, similiar to above
Bad os instal, take your pick there are tons of possibilities.
File permissions: Usually causes read/write errors because the OS won't allow writing
File protection: Same as last.

i feel like its failing driver since it worked before updating. it is very possible its going bad

If it worked before an update I'd actually lean towards overzealous protection or file permission issues, which means it could be your antivirus/antimalware or OS blocking files or locking them to read only

Then you would need to do more to diagnose the problem. But those are your best options to look into

na its for sure went bad i was just wondering if there was anything i missed before i replace it. would be a shame there was a fix i did not know about but since i know now there is prob nothing so i feel so guilt

If you have ensure your anti viruses not causing the issues next thing can try is opt into or out of steam beta, if still not fixing issue redownloading Steam client files might fix the issue, to do this head to where Steam installed delete everything except for Steamapp folder and steam.exe once done run steam.exe and see if it resolved.

If this is a HDD you may need to defrag which could fix your issue. Another thing can do this apply to HDD, and SSD/nvme is do system error check, and checking your storage health to ensure things are working as they should be.

just got a patch for a game and it froze and windows lost sigh of the drive. sadly it went bad i guess it is insane since i can install stull on it but when theres a update the drive does not work and has problems. kind of sad tbh but whatever.
