Tried to purchase Steam Deck

I have a Visa gift card that has enough on it to pay for most of the item--but falls a little short. My plan was to use the gift card and then pay for the remaining amount due using my credit card. I put the gift card in and got declined. Is there a way to purchase an item using more than one payment method? Also, I removed the cc info I have saved in my account to add the gift card info, but when I checked, Steam listed the failed purchase 3x. Twice with the gift card info and once with the cc I normally use. I only attempted the transaction once and it was only with the gift card. Why is my cc info showing up as well?

Add the funds with 1 external payment method, go through the checkout and pay for the purchase with the wallet funds and cover the rest with another external payment method.

Oh...so in other words I should add funds to my steam wallet. Use that. And then pay the remaining balance with an external payment? Just want to make sure I understand
