Pls help how do I get my mic to work usen a plug in head set

New to the steam deck n recently bought a pair as soon as I plugged them in I can hear perfectly fine but the mic isn’t picking up I’ve tried everything I could think of any help guys

It is a known issue "Microphone does not work with SteamOS 3.5.5"

Microphone just doesn't work anymore, no one can hear me on apps like Discord, it was fully functional with SteamOS 3.4, and it used to work when I tested on Beta before the OLED update, since then, it does not work. I tried the different microphone options and none of them work. Seems like it's a driver related issue, the driver has changed and that broke compatibility. Now the microphone does not work on stable channel. I tried with both internal and external microphone through headphone jack, it does not work

And it is being fixed in the Preview channel "SteamOS 3.5.6 Preview: Beyond Stable"

Here is a workaround

I can confirm that this works. Created a voice chat with just myself in Steam, then opened Discord and it works. If I leave the Steam Voice chat it stops working in Discord.
