Reinstalling a game on a new drive
Recently, one of my PC's internal hard drives has had some sort of failure. This was before Christmas, so I haven't been able to get it in to repair to check if it's a permanent failure (which I know it probably is, but I can dream) or if it's repairable. In the meantime, I would like to play some of the games that were on that drive.

Will reinstalling the games onto my other, still functioning hard drive cause issues? In particular, with saves and steam cloud? If possible, I would like to know both if the broken drive is completely irretrievable or if it can be repaired and the original data restored (in which case, the game would wind up being installed twice on two different drives)

Save games are usually not located in the installation folder but in your Windows "My Documents" section or in your hidden Windows APPDATA folder.
In both cases they are not influenced by where the game is installed and should be available with a new installation on a different drive.
Same for the Steam cloud backup, its no related to any install location of the game and will just download the latest save file to the correct location.

If you should be able to restore your old installation Steam will just choose one library as the "original" one (most likely by drive letter order) and the location of the game and ignore the other installation.

All right! That's very good to hear. I'll start the reinstall. I'm pretty sentimental over my save games so it's good to know.

Thank you very much for your help!
