Private game option not there

So, steam added the ability to private games a while ago. I got curious, and wanted to test it out, and...the option isn't there for me. When I looked it up, it said that you could mark a game as private when buying it, in the library in the steam client, and through the website. Tried all of those and...yeah...the ability just doesn't exist. Everywhere I looked online, it said it was in the option where you could hide a game...but it wasn't, only the option to hide a game was there. So...now I'm just confused. Anyone got any tips? I really wanna confuse my friends by pretending I never had a game they know I play, but can't if I can't find this option.
