You can find your GTA V savegame in:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\Profiles
GTA IV stores its savegame in:
"%LocalAppData%\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\" folder where XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX is a 16-character string tied to the user's Games for Windows Live account.
If you want to save them a bit more automated:

Yes it was the same PC. I copied both save games onto the SD card. Uninstalled both, then installed them again and launched straight in without moving anything back and it brought me straight back to my save game. So somehow it was able to reinstate the save game without me needing to back it up. I tried looking on my Rockstar account but there's no information about my saves on there.
That was my assumption however I couldn't see anyone confirming this on previous discussions or on Reddit. Everyone was saving that the data is only saved locally, unless something has changed.
It seems it has.
Keep in mind that your multiplayer progress is always saved on the Rockstar servers, not locally.
