Download loses all progress every time it Pauses
I am trying to update a game (specifically the witcher) and whenever i hit pause and then start the download again it restarts at zero percent. It has to be said that my internet connection is really, really bad, so I cant just "check my internet connection". I think the bad internet might actually be part of the issue, however i am not experiencing this with smaller games. The connection is not something i can work on, but it would be nice to be able to pause and restart the downloading process without losing all progress.

You sure you dont need pointers to fix it, you can actual test with change steam dl zone. +

have spare pc to test own main pc issue or is it cable and router or from wallplug the ISP the error is coming from, then its own ISP issue into steam.

links that is explan itself.
https://packetlosstest.com/

https://www.speedtest.net/

bad packet run it 3 to 5 times and do you get what you paid for into own ISP.

plenty of network troubleshooting guide at steam help section and steam post's.

Ensure nothing hooking into client, or messing with it files, and permissions such as third party anti virus.

When you pause it should take a moment to finish it process to pause, but if you force close Steam before it can do it, this might cause problem.

If you use any back up software like one drive, or etc to auto replace files, and such this might cause problem as well.

If you really have bad internet connections it's best to just leave it running until it finish.

How do I check all those things? Also I would just leave it running, but for some unknown reason it just crashed and started at zero again

For 1st part you have to check the apps you installed such as 3rd party anti virus, or etc that hooks into steam client, or messing with it files, and permission, and only way to know is checking it yourself so you have to open those apps you installed, and see what it is doing.

2nd part means when you click pause it trying to set a point so it can carry on later on, if you force close the steam, or shutdown PC before it can finish pausing that be the problem.

3rd part means exactly what it means if you setup a backup cloud drive to back, and replace at certain places you need to fix that so doesn't remove the files you need to be in place, or mess with only you can change those settings if you use such backup feature that does things.

4th part idk what to tell you, go do packloss test, and speed test see how bad your internet, if you're using wifi that might be your factor problem or not as depending if you're using a bad wifi adapter might be reason of bad internet connection, only way to see if if it a bad adapter is to use a ethernet wire and do the test again. Please note ethernet wire will always be better than wifi due to having direct connection to the modem for stability so there no disruption between device to the modem.

1. I have checked my defenders and added steam as an exception for all of them so that does not seem to be the problem.
2. I wasnt doing that anyways, i left steam open all the time.
3. I do not reckon ever doing that.
4. I know how bad my internet is (around 4 MBit/s max) and I know its due to the fact that my home hasnt gotten a proper internet connection (i am also directly connected to my router.

So if there arent any programs on my pc which might interfere with it that I do not know of I do not have any clue why that is happening. Thanks anyways.

Any QoS running or ip trafic management ? ( a steam user with lenovo pc once mention this. ) it reduce the max DL speed.

Do note ip radio might need this. ( or it will stutter the traffic. to the IP radio )

Well if it a problem with the ISP you have to contact them to fix the problem with your home network. I hoping that the case but let us know if you solve your issue, or have question we try to answer that you might try on your end which is flushing your IP but that best we can tell you.

Well if we were to solve the problem with my internet that would be great, but afaik the issue is the fact that we dont have our internet via any form of cable, so i always guessed that was the problem
