Upgrading from a previous version of Windows isn't something to be taken lightly as there's a price involved, plus time spent learning how different Win10 is from previous versions. Plenty of help on the forums.
Its a bit tricky to find the exact Win10 purchase(if you want to buy the box with the USB installer stick in it) which might be 50-ish or 100-ish depending on if you want an activation key for Home or Pro. Avoid scam sites as you never know if the key in the box has been used already. Microsoft's site does have the in-place upgrade purchase(through your browser) and then your machine is registered/activated without handing you an actual license key. Its only a problem if the upgrade doesn't go well. Find a legit box edition, if you don't need it thats great, but you will at some point have a problem and you'll need it(because its Windows after all).

A lot of people who refuse to upgrade loves to claim that Win10 and Win11 can't run older games. This is false because they can run a whole lot of them.

In fact it's hard to find a game that won't run on Win10 or Win11.

If you go with Linux the odds of all games working are much lower because it is known that Linux isn't compatible with all Windows games.

How many games have to be unsupported before you care?
Windows 10 is an unacceptable plague of an OS, I can't believe anyone's using it.
You could have upgraded for free.
It was not worth it to keep using win 7 for this long.

But you can try win 10 out, it will have a watermark on the right bottom and you need to select a background by right clicking an image.

You can just upgrade without reinstall. If it works fine, it was just clicking some button, and making win 10 settings (there are also tools for that on computer magazine sites).

Old system control you can reach with a shortcut of control exe.

And yet another inane rant without any shred of an argument. Thanks for confirming the stereotype.

All games end up unsupported, since all games stop getting updates/patches.

But that doesn't mean they don't run. Games not running on win 10 is quite rare, actually. I have a large collection of games starting from the 80s and it's rare I find a game that does not run on Win 10. Some might need a tweak or two to perform better, sure, though most tweaks I apply are for resolutions and widescreen/HD.
