Can't transfer a game to another PC although local transfer is enabled in settings
Hi! I want to transfer Diablo IV to my husband's PC. When my husband tries to install Diablo IV, it says that local transfer has to be enabled on my PC though it already is. We tried toggling this option on and off in settings, rebooting our PCs, and logging in to the same account on both PCs. Nothing seemed to help.

Make sure in Steam --> Settings --> Downloads that the account of your husband is authorized to get the game files shared with. By default the setting is only to your own account.

Update the setting accordingly.

Additionally, make sure both computers use the same IP address subnet and can see each other.

So, if one PC is connected over Ethernet and the other over Wifi, make sure that those networks are bridged. Additionally, some Wifi networks can limit communication between network devices, which for guest networks are great, but in your case a serious problem.
That is a setting of your Wifi access point/router

Note the computers have to be on the same LAN as well. If you have any DMZ or separatation of networking between the computers, steam wont see them as 'local'

Okay, so it appears that we can transfer games to my PC from my husband's PC, but not vice versa. When my husband tries to install a game on his PC, he gets the following message: https://imgur.com/a/VR03pgb

@Cathulhu, this settings is set to "Anyone" for both of our accounts. Both our PCs are connected to the same router with LAN cables.

Local transferas have to be enabled on both systems. This is a system specific setting not an account setting

also note that you can transfer TO a asteamdeck, but you cannot transfer FROM a steamdeck

Added some context but there are some limitations on what can be used as the source for local transfers

https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/46BD-6BA8-B012-CE43

A Steam Deck, or a PC running in Steam desktop mode can host network transfers. PCs in Big Picture mode, and custom launchers can't transfer their files out over the local network.

Also it could be a firewall issue on your other computer blocking port 24070. So that computer can pull data, but it cannot send data.

The network transfer happens on TCP port 24070 and it needs to be allowed by local firewall software.

So it seems that it was just a bug... My husband gave up and hit the Install button, and it started the transfer despite that yellow bold message :steamfacepalm:

This was it, ty! Showed the "enable it please" message, but just worked as it was already enabled on both devices

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
