Steam codes from websites

Hello,
first of all thank you for your time and now to the thing:

long story short, I have a friend who buy games from literally the cheapest website he can find it on. He doesnt really care about it, but recently he bought me a "secret game" as he dont want to "spoil the gift" and tell me name of the game nor of the website. And I believe it is the from some of his suspicious websites which I would not trust myself. I wanted to ask you, are there any risks activating this code on my steam account? can it get stolen or banned?

The worst that could happen is that the game gets revoked after a while because the seller bought the keys with a stolen credit card or similar.
There have also been cases where the publisher revoked a bunch of keys that got bought in bulk without payment and then resold on those shady reseller stores.
To be fair this is VERY rare and most likely absolutely nothing will happen and the game will just be fine in your library.
Like mentioned the WORST that can happen is that you lose the game if the key should be revoked in the future.
But your account is not in any danger and that game key cant be used to take over your account or get you banned.
