How to stop chromium flicker/artifacts
Just wondering if there is a solution yet for the black square flickering of the steam client yet?. It's been at least 2 years now & I am tired of it. I tried to google it but can only find a solution for chrome itself & not the chromium that steam client runs on.

That sounds more like an issue with your video drivers. Though you can try to disable/enable gpu acceleration in the web view

steam-settings-interface-enable gpu eaccellerated redering in web views

I will try out the settings. Its 100% not my drivers though, I am up to date & done many clean installs over the years. Its a conflict with nvidia GPU's and chromium based browsers. Nvidia blame microsoft/windows and vice versa. Either way neither of them seem bothered to fix the problem

Yeah, it's kind of a notorious and unpredictable problem with Nvidia and Chromium. It didn't happen at all with my RTX 3070 so I panicked when I replaced it with a RTX 4070 Ti and I suddenly began randomly experiencing that checkerboard effect while browsing.

I've got a feeling disabling hardware acceleration like Satoru suggested is the only way forward for now if you're experiencing it in the Steam client. I don't weirdly. Also weirdly, I don't experience it in Vivaldi even though it's Chromium based and hardware acceleration and direct composition (etc.) are enabled. I can't say the same for Google Chrome.

On the actual chrome browser I don't have any issues weirdly enough. Its pretty much exclusively on the steam client. When I am browsing the store or pressing menus then there is a good chance I will get severe black checkerboarding for a second. I will see how it goes with the hardware acceleration off

i have the same issue with steam's store page and chrome while browsing youtube.. its a split second and random.

never while running a game or hardware test.

hoping its just a meh thing and not an issue
