You had performed similar to the gif? Was triggering it in-game with PS button + Share/Create?
If so: over BT the controller has to be in 'advanced mode' for the Mute button to function. Setting PlayStation Controller Support to 'Enabled' (not 'Enabled in Games w/o Support') will have Steam switch the controller to advanced mode.
Steam > Settings > Controller > PlayStation Controller Support
In advanced mode the controller is no longer compatible with DirectInput, so if you were playing a game using its native support and that game did so via DirectInput, the controller wont function. You could go via Steam Input or if you still wanted PS prompts/game's native support, go via a tool that can emulate a PS controller e.g. DS4Windows.
To get back to 'simple mode'/DInput-compatible, turn off the controller, set PS Controller Support away from 'Enabled', then can reconnect.
One way to have just Mute = Screenshot is to map it on a game's individual layout.
Ya I basically just want the mute button to be the screenshot key for all my games, I noticed that changing it manually for 2 of my games in the controller settings in big picture mode seems to do the trick but I don't wanna have to manually change it for ALL games, also yeah I do have the advance mode on and I connect my controller via usb not bt
