Disable Steam Input for Steam Controller?

It doesn't seem to be possible anymore, I just want the damn thing to work as a normal controller. Every post I see about this is related to Steam Deck which can't do it as some sort of anti-piracy measure. There are a few features missing with the new Deck focused UI as well!

Literally impossible & has always been. The Steam Controller acts as a mouse by default, without any Steam running. Has been like that since day 1, never changed. It was never possible to use this thing as an actual gamepad without Steam Input.

You can, however, chose the "normal controller" layout. Which is possible from the "Deck" UI as well which I did yesterday to play Gears 5 locally and my bud picked that thing from my pile'o'gamepads.

Right-click a game in your Steam library. Go to the 'controller' panel. Disable Steam Input from there.

Am I seeing something you don't?

This only disables it for other controllers. Maybe you never could but I can't get it to work with non steam games anymore. I give up

This only disables it for other controllers. Maybe you never could but I can't get it to work with non steam games anymore. I give up

That part about "non-Steam games" is new, you didn't mention that earlier.

That said, with the SC attached, connected & turned on, do you get a gamepad layout menu option for that non-Steam game?

I am not sure if this is what you seek, but global Steam Input settings, for non-steam games, may be found by using the Steam application. If you go to Steam; Settings; Controller.

Yes, it just doesn't work. The haptics change and the mouse input no longer works it just doesn't do anything in game.

No, I mean that part where you browse default templates. That's right next to community configs.

Just to get this clear, does this game supports gamepads in the first place? Does it take input from another gamepad you're using without Steam entirely?

Also, do you get the Steam overlay when starting this game through Steam?
