Add new game to download queue instead of interrupting current download
Let's say you have a game currently installing/updating. You're browsing steam in the meantime and find something you like, so you purchase it or download the demo, that new item will then interrupt your previously installing content and take precedence. Is there a way to just make the new item go to the queue instead of immediately installing? I looked briefly in settings under "downloads" and didn't see a setting. Figured I'd ask here and just keep looking in the meantime. Thanks for your helpful responses!

Well Steam should fix that. It's obnoxious and I've had problems in the past with game files getting corrupted when the install is interrupted.

That's what I do, too, but I'd like for it to not get interrupted at all. Steam should change that. It seems weird to me that a new install takes priority over an existing install.

FWIW very much agreed that this should be changed as per OP.

I wouldn't be against a "queue subsequent downloads" option. There's lots of ways for this to be implemented. You might always download the primary thing first. But I wouldn't bet hard money that everyone does though. And good luck arguing how users should download things according to your habits.

Heck, good luck arguing anything on here.
So strange that something like Steam doesn't have this feature. Valve please add it! You are so good with features!
This! The simplest solution developer-wise would probably be to add a switch either in the downloads screen or the download settings, determining which end of the queue new downloads are added to. That's it, no need to change anything else, and it could default to the current logic (which I have to say is very weird, I can't think of any other system behaving similarly).
This thread was quite old before the recent posts, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
