Is the product key supposed to show up in an email? If it is, you may have to wait up to an hour before you receive an email with the product key.
If you got the product key from a third party source, contact their support if the key doesn't arrive in an email in over 24 hours.

You don't, product keys are for retail purchases, if you buy from the Steam store the game is added directly to your library.

First, have you bothered checking your library.
Second, did you buy your game as a gift? If so, you cannot use the product key for your own reasons. This is a problem you will need to talk to steam support for. https://support.steampowered.com/
But still, check your spam folder in your email. If the product key does not arrive by email within 1 hour, contact official support.
