Steam Downloads caps at 500 KB/s
Hey guys, have this problem for few months now since i reinstaled windows soo i get max 489-500 KB/s. Before new year it was fine i downloaded games like GTAV in like 15 minutes with speeds 10 MB/s so i dont know what is the problem i thought that it was my router but i unpluged the cable and put it directly to computer and speeds were the same my friend has the same interner proveder and a router, lives near by, he always has good speeds like 5MB/s- 10MB/s. I tryed everything all stupid tutorials nothing helped so what is wrong with my steam??? is it a bug? or what. P.S yes i tryed other download servers and regions they all are the same all has the same stupid 500KB/s cap..... this is making me mad... can somemone help me with this problem ?

what speed of internet are you paying your ISP for?
Your friend who lives near you might be paying more money to the same ISP/Internet Provider as you and that could be why they are getting faster downloads.

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5174773747 i dont know if this helps but to know my speed. And my plan is 100 Mb/s so i think that i must have bigger speeds downloading stuff not 500 KB/s cap .... -.-

True, with that test result you should have 10 Megabytes per second, not 1/20 of that.

Any limits set in Steam --> Settings --> Downloads ?

Are your network drivers up to date for all devices involved?

4 years later.. ever managed to fix it? Paying for 200mbs plan
Ra1n. Aug 9, 2022 @ 8:38am
7 years later did you fix that problem yet?
HeGz Aug 10, 2022 @ 8:24am
Yeah i changed my internet provider and problem was fixed instantly. Long story short my internet provider merged with other company and somehow when they were merging they did something with the speeds or maybe they messed up my plan speeds, i dont know but when i changed the provider everything was great again.

I was able to fix it for me. Restarting router made my download go from 500KB/s to 17,3MB/s

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
