Bluetooth Headset : No sound when connecting when game is already running

Not sure if this is the right forum, either way:

For a few days now I have this behaviour where a game launched through Steam would not play any sound through Bluetooth if I connect the headset when the game is already running.
It works fine if Bluetooth is connected before running the game, so an abvious workaround is to restart the game with headset connected, but that can get annoying if the game needs quite a bit to start up / load save.
This hasn't happened before. It only started a few days ago.

If i minimise the game the sound works fine, Windows or Youtube in Browser, all play sound. Only a running game would simply not play sound.

This is the current behavior of since Win 10, I believe? The process manager fails to pass the application's sound output toward the headset. Instead, it'll will go to the desktop speaker.

Using an USB headset no problems at all. The problem now occurs with the use of a bluetooth device.
JBL unpaired and re-paired, no succes.

Cannot fix this issue.

I have updated Bluetooth drivers -- any and all drivers for that matter.

The game and Steam is listed in the volume mixer with 100%, but no sound is coming through headphones.

Same is true for Firefox, but there sound is playing.

At an impasse here.

Problem solved. Steam right click - "Run as administrator".

This exact issue has been driving me mad for years. How is there no solution to this?! Please somebody solve this and I will gift you a game of your choice within reason
