Steam support changed my store country and now they say they can't
Context: I am currently in Uruguay while I'm from Argentina. I never used any Uruguayan payment method. I was trying to buy a game with Steam wallet funds I already had and it kept giving me an error and to contact Steam support.
I did and they changed my Steam Store country and wallet funds to Uruguay without me asking for them. Now not only I can't afford the game I was trying to buy, I reopened the ticket requesting to revert the change and they told me "They can't change the store country on my behalf" and that I have to go to Argentina physically.

Is there something that can help me revert this change without having to be physically in Argentina? Because I already missed out on some sales because of this problem and I won't be back until after the Halloween sales too...

No, and trying to abuse the system to get cheaper prices from a country you do not live in can and will get your Steam account terminated. It is a violation of the Steam Subscriber Agreement.

If you live in Uruguay you will have to pay the prices for that region.

Contacting Support and advising you're trying to abuse the system is not smart.

Don't worry, Autumn sale will be in November...

I was born in Argentina and I even attached my national document just in case, They didn't care about it. If you can't suggest me something to help with my problem please refrain from making comments. Thank you :)

It doesn't matter where you were born, it matters where you live now, if you lived in Argentina, you would be able to do what Steam has requested, the fact you can't is further proof that you no longer live in Argentina,

You could also do with learning some manners.

You want some help? If you want Argentina pricing, then move back to Argentina. That is the only option you have. No one on the forums is going to help you find away to violate the SSA. Mods will most likely delete this thread as that is what you are asking for.

Also this is public forum and everyone is welcome to post.

I lived in Argentina my whole life. I created my account 9 years ago in Argentina. I made payments with Argentinian credit and debit cards. I have not been in Argentina since a few months ago and have not made any payments with any Uruguayan credentials because I don't have them.
I have been buying games with my Argentinian card and I was hit by an "error" while trying to use Steam wallet funds my store country was changed because I reported said error to Steam support.

So when the first comment around my issue is just an accusatory comment that tells me I'm trying to exploit cheaper prices and I'm stupid it doesn't go well you know?

I just asked for help around this issue since Steam support is going back and forth about what they're able to do. The first ticket I made the response was "Hey. So we changed the Store country so it matches your current location!" then 2 days after they told me "We cannot change your store country on your behalf" Ok so why was it changed in the first place?

****Steam didn't request anything. I made a ticket on a Steam cart issue and the store country was changed on my behalf. I asked this change to be reverted and they told me they can't change it on my behalf...

Yeah, this is a public forum. I'm just asking for help and you assume I'm trying to cheat the system. I'm not denying your freedom to comment. I was just asking you kindly to stop doing it. Nothing else :)

Sounds like you moved to me and support seems to think the same thing. A few months is more than just a vacation.

Also using wallet funds is one way people had been getting cheaper region prices and they have now put a stop to it.

Steam Support most likely thinks you moved to Uruguay. If you didn't, you will most likely have to wait until you are back in Argentina to change it back.

If you're currently living in Uruguay, you have to set your Steam store in that country, no matter where you were born. This is like that to prevent people to abuse the price system where in some countries it is cheaper to buy games.

In case you're moving back to Argentina, you would set again the store to that country.

I was using Steam items to get my wallet funds. I didn't charge any funds that's a bad explanation on my part

Nowhere in the FAQ about Store country says that if I move I'm forced to change it to that country. The FAQ says this:

"If you have moved to a new place, or are living abroad for an extended period of time, you can update your Steam country setting when you complete your first purchase using a payment method from that region. If your location differs from your current Steam account store country setting you'll have an option to change your store region while you view your cart or as you complete your purchase."

This is why I'm asking for help in reverting the change since I never asked the support to update the store country. Someone from support made the change after I made a ticket about an error I had with the Steam cart.

"You can update the store country each time you change locations as long as you use a payment method that matches your Steam country setting. Keep in mind that changing the store/Wallet country will be permanent and cannot be changed again until you move back to the other country.

If you frequently move between countries, we suggest choosing the country that is your primary residence."

This is where the support doesn't get the problem I have. I never wanted the change in the Store country that the FAQ says it's permanent until I'm back physically... I'm just asking them to revert the change of something I didn't ask from them and the response from the is that they can't do it on my behalf

The reason I contacted Steam support & response[imgur.com]

I arrived 6~ months ago but it's not my permanent address nor do I want the Steam country to be set in Uruguay due to I'm almost getting x18 the prices just for one game. My problem was that I had 106$ ARS in my wallet balance and I wanted to buy a 95$ARS game, an error popped up telling me to contact Steam, I did, and they changed my balance to $ UY, now with the conversion I have 11$ UY in wallet balance and the game costs 180$ UY. Am I explaining with enough details to make my problem be understood?

So you did move long term, so the change of the store region is appropriate.
MadBone12 Sep 23, 2023 @ 9:52am
No one here can help you and Steam support is not going to change it back. Accept it and move on.

Where in the FAQ does it say that?
