Internet speed limited at 1.2 MB/s
basically what the title said, I have a 130 Mb/s speed, translating to roughly 16 MB/s. the download speed is constantly at 1.2 so it feels like it's limited by force rather than wifi being bad. Is this a steam thing during busy hours or can I fix it somehow?

edit: It seems that there was indeed a limiter, be it either on my end or steam's end. Once the clock hit 11 PM my download jumped to 160 Mb/s. Thanks for the advice anyways.

1.2 Megabyte equal to 10 Megabit, which indicates that there is either a limiter at work somewhere on your end, or your Wifi signal is utter crap.

Is it possible that it only limits steam? My internet speed tests all still give 130-140 Mb/s.

Depends on where the limiter is set up and how it works. Check Steam Settings --> Downloads if there is some download speed limit set.

Already did, currently disabling my antivirus to see if that's the problem.

edit: It was not
Double trouble edit: My clock hit 11 pm and my download speed jumped to 160 Mb/s. Guess it was some weird safety mechanism for busy hours.

If you're on Win11 turning of IPV6 can do the trick. Google will tell you how.

Even if it's been around for like 2 decades the internet still does not like it.

Could have been some throttling by your ISP.
Steam itself does not throttle downloads.

Net neutrality/Double Paid Carrier issue.

This old article explains the economical politics issues behind it (not only Hetzner suffered/suffers from it):

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
