"TES IV : Oblivion 5th anniversary edition" no code
Hello,

I own "The Elder Scroll IV : Oblivion 5th anniversary edition" (Oblivion + knights of the nine + Shivering isles) in a "just for games" box and there is no activation code but I would like to have this game on my steam account.
Is it possible?

It's not on this list so it is not possible: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

But If I can prove that I own the game (picture). is it possible to steam to add it in my library like Origin made it with my SimCity 4 ?

Origin is better on this point they should work on it!

Steam is the same as origin in this case, you can't add oblivion to origin either.

Sim City is published/owned by EA, Origin is owned by EA. That is why you not only can but HAVE TO use their service to play that game.

Same thing as Half-Life 2 is owned by Valve, Steam can and have to be used.

Oblivion is an 8 year old game, back then very few games could be registered in Steam like that. Even with their 5th anniversary addition they left it so you just needed the CD to play it.

EDIT: some people hate when they have to use Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/7/43099721873251662/

It's not the problem!

I mean, If I can prove that I own a game or it's DLC's but I can't add it by myself to steam, they should be able to add it.
Moreover Oblivion, knikght of the nine and Shivering Isles is on the steam market and so they can just offer a copy (if I prove that I own the game and DLC's)

By that same merit then. Would you go to your local game store and demand another copy because you bought it from the store around the corner but want one from this other store? That's basically what your asking for here.

They can't just give you another copy without it costing them money. You may want to just keep an eye out in the future for games that do activate on steam.

I think steam has enought money to give us 10 copy of the games we alrady own but that's another debate. I have my opignon you have your's!

Thanks to you for answering me!

Steam is not the publisher of oblivion, they don't decide which games includes Steam codes or not. It is up to the publisher if they want to do that or not.

They might change it in the future, does the game use a CD-key at all? Bethesda likes to use Steam so maybe they will add support for this in the future, who knows. They surely don't have to is my point. The game works fine over a disc.

Try asking here, who knows.

It's more a case of how do you PROVE you own the game? Bear in mind that Steam/Valve has NO ACCESS to previous cd keys for this game, only the ones they have been given to sell.

You can't give them they key as proof as they have no way of knowing what the key is for. It's like me showing you a key and saying "i want my copy of Payday2 on my account now!" - you can't tell that the key is valid, let alone what game it ACTUALLY is for.

Origin can do that for SimCity as they make it, they know every single cd key for that game and which ones have been used, etc. Likewise Valve/Steam could do it for their games, TF2, Half Life or Left4Dead etc.

If a publisher has shared their cd key collection with Valve, then yes, they can activate it on Steam as they know what the keys are and what game they relate to, otherwise you can't.

EDIT @HLCinSC - I've reported it, I hope they see that you have copied and quoted the post in FULL, so now there are TWO copies of the text on the page!! Edit your post so that it at least doesn't have the site in full or something.

Valve has actually gotten access to old CD-keys like this, i think they added so that old cod4 keys can be added recently. Lots of people adding support to keys in Steam and leaving GFWL and gamespy behind.

Borderlands did it recently.

Also the batman arkham asylum series and bioshock 2. Maybe it doesn't work with all cd-key systems, who knows.

With that said, there is no real need to do this with oblivion. It has no online component of any kind so discs work fine. Would be nice though I suppose.
