How to use the XBox One controller wirelessly?
According to Microsoft, at http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/controller-pc-compatibility , the XBox One controller should work wirelessly on Windows. But I can't make my Windows detect the controller. It works fine when connected using a USB cable. But I didn't buy it to play on cable =/

Do you have any ideas or 3rd party tools to make it work without the cable on my PC? (In the future I'd like to see it working on Linux as well... but let's take it one step at a time).

Thanks.

Thank you for your comment, but I'm talking about the XBox One controller (not the XBox 360).
AFAIK the XBox One gamepad isn't fully supported yet. You should wait until a proper drivers gets released.
The page I linked is quite misleading. Microsoft should either fix the support or fix that page. For those looking for playing with a XBox One controller wirelessly on PC, please vote on this suggestion: http://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/251650-console-accessories/suggestions/6028917-wireless-xbox-one-controller-support-for-windows

It would likely require either a bluetooth connection or a dongle (I don't know what connection type it uses) both of which would likely introduce some latency.

Nonsense. It runs on the console without latency problems, why should it not run on a PC without problems with a proper dongle? And if logic isn't enough, the Xbox 360 gamepad runs on the PC with it's own dongle without noticeable latency.

some latency does not always mean noticable latency
No, it's saying the X-Box One Wireless Controller will work on Windows, not that it'll work in Wireless mode.

Just get a micro USB cable and download the drivers and you're set. The controller will work in wired mode perfectly.
Xbox One Controller will work and has official drivers
http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/controller-pc-compatibility

but u must use a Micro-USB -to- USB cable.
That is a good design on their part, as MS Xbox One Controllers are both wireless and wired, without the need for a separate device. Currently there is no way to make it work over wireless on PC/Mac yet though.

Thanks for your answers, but please pay attention to what I need (in the title). I know the XBox One controller works using the cable (as I said), but what I do need is to make it work wirelessly. Is there any 3rd party tool/driver to make it work?

Again: I'm talking about the Xbox One (not 360) controller, working without a cable (not wired), on my Windows PC.

I think the post from Microsoft is misleading because they say about the wireless controller... and well, if there's one thing I expect from a wireless controller is that it works without a wire.
You have to wait. It is to be assumed that proper support will come.

I know that this post is pretty old, but watching the tech specs of the Xbox ONE controller I noticed that it uses a dual band 5GHz wireless connection as shown in here:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-one-controller-for-windows
in the technical data PDF file...

as far as i know the Bluetooth dongle uses a 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity, that makes impossible to use a Bluetooth dongle to use the Xbox ONE controller wirelessly...

there's maybe a chance with the 5GHz wi-fi dual band antenna, but that will make you enter in the hardware development area...

sorry dude, both of us will have to wait for Microsoft response to the wireless demand
(I owe one too :/)
Or use the 360 gamepad in the meantime.
