How to use the XBox One controller wirelessly?
According to Microsoft, at http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/controller-pc-compatibility , the XBox One controller should work wirelessly on Windows. But I can't make my Windows detect the controller. It works fine when connected using a USB cable. But I didn't buy it to play on cable =/

Do you have any ideas or 3rd party tools to make it work without the cable on my PC? (In the future I'd like to see it working on Linux as well... but let's take it one step at a time).

Thanks.

It's out today, here, in Europe.
Sadly it's windows 10 ONLY ...

A way to impose your new OS, microsoft ?
I guess so.... Let's pray for a good hacker ..... in order to play with windows 7 or 8.1...
Windows 10 is free if you have 7.
@ReBoot Win 10 still sucks, and I won't use it until Microsoft will pay me for using it... and it better be a fortune. (I will have a second look at it when the upgrade option runs out, though. But till then even if I buy a new computer that comes with win 10 I will downgrade it to 7 even meaning I have to buy an extra licence. makes me wish my games will finally run on linux so that I can kiss M$ goodbye forever)
Starting from this month Xbox One controller could be connected wirelessly through special adapter which drivers for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 came out lately. No wireless connection available not only for Windows 10 users, but 7, 8 and 8.1 as well.
@Sempiro Cool! Thanks for the info. Now I only have to convince my Computer to actually dowload it...
The gamepad supports bluetooth connections to other devices; gamepad keyboards and wireless headsets. It seems it should support connecting to Windows if both are bluetooth compatible but I can't find anyone mentioning trying or succeeding. A $9.99 bluetooth dongle(or two) would be a better option than purchasing the Xbox One Windows receiver if this is possible.

Windows 10 is great for gaming and for every other task. faster boot times, lower level system resources, DX12, and newer drivers for most newer devices. makes sense nothing is being developed for Windows 7 anymore since it is over 15 years old. the "spying" everyone seems so scared of is easily bypassed and not a big deal to begin with.

And constantly updated ... and actually not that easily bypassed (because well hiddden, touches core functionality, and updates) ... and as policies with the upgrade to 10 app showed ... you better disable any form of update and or app shop in windows 10, too ... and probably use a 3rd party program for that because of security reasons ...
Man does this mean I could connect it wirelessly with a ebay 2$ bluetooth dongle instead of the official 25$ microsoft one
if you have bluethooth you can just connect it to your pc (a bluethooth dongle is only about 10$ if you pc doenst have it build in) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deXVHQ1wJXc
You can connect it to your pc with bluetooth if the controller is the new Xbox One S
Otherwise with the older ones you need ( and I also ) to buy the $25 dongle from miscrosoft ...
Mod could you please close this ... it is two years old and totally outdated by now (since you can get the adapter now and also the compatibility of the new controllers)
