But even once you install the game from disc you have to download all the updated data, which isn't on your disc.
And 4mbps connections are slow...
Also Valve completely changed their content storage system for old Valve titles when they updated their content delivery system for Steam few years ago. So Steam has to convert anything you install from the disk to the new content system before you can play the games.
And download speed doesn't matter; Steam will happily download in the background, and will resume downloads if you shut down. So just start it up and let it run; it will finish eventually.
Aren't you just an over friendly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and a smart one at that. Download speed = time it takes to download and be able to play the game. I simply have the retail discs, containing 8 GB of data that steam wants to download. Before trying to be smart, first do a bit of comprehensive reading.
The core data doesn't get old ie textures etc. Coding corrections in the form patches is the new data, but doesn't make up the bulk of data. Most of the 7.8 GB it wants to download is not the patches you are referring to.
So, a used key, possible failing HDD, piracy and a 6 year necro...?
