change category priority?
In the library you can asign games to different categories, a feature which I use extensively.

I use two steam clients one linux (regularly) and one windows (rarely). The problem with this is that the windows categories take precedence over the linux ones. Whenever I start up the windows client it replaces the linux clients categories with its own. Forcing me to do them again (Changes which might be some months old, as I don't use windows often).

Is there any way to choose which client gets priority? Or even better, automatically give priority to the client with the most recent changes?

You have to turn Steamcloud off if you don't want to synchronize categories.

Thats actually the reason finally I posted this. (probably should have mentioned this)
It's still the case with the new beta.
And has been that way since I started using the linux invitational beta.

I definatly want sync.
I just want it to sync in the other direction (or bidirectional)
ReBoot Jul 24, 2014 @ 6:02am
You can always sync your categories using other tools. I have a similar problem, it works only one-way, the wrong one. The support guy who answered my plea for help is too stupid to actually read my question.
Now I use OneDrive to sync both ways. Use any tool you know that syncs one way to sync one way.

Pardon me Psy, do you access both linux and windows client with the same account or different account for both of the client?
PsyBlade Jul 24, 2014 @ 6:14am
I guess it wouldn't be a problem to whip up a litle script that does a 3-way diff if I can figure out the format. That way even concurrent changes (of different games) shouldnt be a problem. Do you know which file the categories are stored in?

But I really expected steam to have some way to select the direction. There should be a considerable number of users with multiple steam clients (eg laptop + desktop).

same
I don't think there is nor should be any sync between different accounts

Sorry, but I don't understand your question. Could you elaborate?

No, I'm asking when you switched to linux client, do you login with the same account or you have different account for both linux and steam client.
PsyBlade Jul 24, 2014 @ 6:39am
I use the same steam-account for both the linux steam client and the windows steam client(As I tried to say in post #8)

It might be worth posting this in the Client Beta Bug Report forum. I think you'll need to join the group to post there. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/discussions/0/

Ah sorry then, didn't quite get what you stated in post #8. As I've never have experience in multiple OS client installed in 1 same device, may I ask is your linux client's directory installed with the windows client directory or are they totally separate? As so there might be an 'overlapping issue.

It is a bug? I thought it was intended behaviour. (Since two way is more complex than one-way)
Will do.
PsyBlade Jul 24, 2014 @ 6:49am
No the directories are totally seperate.
It should behave the same as two steam installs on two different computers.
(Except that I can't run em at the same time)
