Why is my steam taking so much of my data and how can i take it down???

Hi, My steam is using too much data how do i stop this. I have set the limit bandwidth to 500kbs but still having the same issue.

Under data usage my pc is receiving 2.98gb of wifi data, Steam is using 996mb and steam exe is using 802mb, the other apps such as chrome etc are using minimal. so im trying to find out how i limit the data pull for steam as my games are lagging.

ive tried putting download limit on the settings, deleted unused games, reinstalled / restarted but nothing seems to work.

any advice is welcome

Try lowering the graphics to a lower resolution. The games could be lagging because of not using a fast enough connection, or your PC is too slow for the game.
If you can't solve this, try avoiding any mean of streaming since you share your whole PC screen instead of just the online services, so you're using data even for fully offline-capable games
