Steam using 100% of my disk when downloading, causing computer to be unusable during download. Running SSD. Also taking very long to "Patch" after downloads are complete, upwards of 5 hours extra. Have a very fast internet

I'm having a similar issue. It's not using 100% but it's definitely making it unusable
When you download a game from steam 3 things happen:

1) You downlaod
2) You decrypt (CPU Bound)
3) You decompress (Disk/CPU)

Steps 2 and 3 have nothing to do with tyour internet.
Dont play games while DL, and also look like a laptop in balance mode and even disk near full, then all performance is lost.

Anything lesser then 200gb soon 500gb then DL size is 100gb, it is that on os disk even more space is needed.


Steam work best in Idle mode, that mean no other task app running and drain resources away from its task.

ps.
Even wifi with many on it will reduce its wifi network, same with many user on household router that access the wan lines. ( shared congested network ) same BS if its on a ISP line, to crowed and it will effect you.
