Gamepad button mapped to Escape key
I'm having an annoying problem with an Xinput gamepad device(a Xinmotek arcade encoder, to be precise). The issue I am having is being caused by Steam, and I know this because closing Steam fixes it, and the issue returns once Steam is reopened.

To be blunt, Steam is causing one of the buttons on the controller to map the the ESCAPE key, which is causing problems in numerous games. It occurs with whichever button I map as B in the Steam controller setup.

While trying to troubleshoot I found an old thread that said to turn off XBox controller configuration, but doing so has made no difference. What other potential fixes are out there to try?

Still need help with this! The problem isn't magically fixing itself!

Try with Desktop Layout disabled:
Steam > Settings > Controller > Desktop Layout [Edit] > gear icon right of 'Edit Layout' > Disable Steam Input > Confirm

That did it. Thank you very much.

Bit annoying that something that, frankly should be a front-and-center option, is buried in the settings like that. Moreover, should probably be off by default.

More surprising is that this issue hasn't come up enough to be covered to an extent that I could find via searching. After initial posting I had tested with normal gamepads and had the same issue, so its not like this was some error exclusive to the device I was using.

Steam > Settings > Controller > Test Device Inputs [Begin Test]
I had a similiar issue and Steam mapped buttons my controller did not have. Skipped those while testing, everything is working flawlessly again when Steam is on.
