Low FPS in steam overlay
Hi everyone. I really did my best trying to find an answer to this on google but every single result of a search request containing "steam overlay" and "fps" is only about how steam overlay decreases in-game performance. In my case the problem is the overlay itself. Doesn't matter what game I'm playing, I get 60fps in game or 160, every time I open steam overlay fps goes down to 4-5. I'm still able to check the achievements or whatever I want but it's super frustrating. My GPU is an RTX 3070, drivers are not the most recent ones, but I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. Please help me to figure this out. Maybe there's something wrong in steam or nvidia settings tho most of them are on default.

Edit: Found the solution myself! If anyone has the same problem, just set "openGL gdi compatibility" in Nvidia control panel to auto. ♥♥♥♥ the person who reccommended to set it to "prefer performance" lmao.

I get the exact same problem I’ll be 250fps in CS2, open the overlay, and boom drops to 2fps it’s so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying. Every time I go to buy keys the overlay craps itself. I know the problem isn’t me I have an i9-13th gen, RTX 4070, 32gb ram

Have you tried changing the "openGL gdi compatibility" setting?
I still get it sometimes, but I feel like it's much better now.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
