NOT ENOUGH DISK SPACE.
Available disk space on drive E where my Steam library is 2.6 GB.

Today I want to update a game, and it's refusing to do so, because
There is not enough disk space available (2.3 GB needed).

I tried and emptied the download cache, and restarted Steam.
There is not enough disk space available (2.3 GB needed).

I also repaired the library and verified the integrity of the game files.
In the libraries window, free space shows as 2.73 GB (overlapping files, perhaps?)
But to update my game, there is not enough disk space available (2.3 GB needed).

According to Steam, 2.6 GB is still less than 2.3 GB.
What am I doing wrong?

Seriously, what???

Is 2.3gb the update size or the game size.

Some games require twice the amount of there install size due to how they unpack the game when updating. (PayDay 2 and Ark are really bad for this.)

If you can’t get that much free space as a last resort you can uninstall and re-install the game.

Free up more space.

You should never have that little free space available.

Now there is 4.32 GB available on the affected drive.
Still, there is not enough disk space to update the game (2.3 GB needed).
I have almost twice that available.

Black Desert Online.
I keep moving everything off to temporary locations, now at 5.87 GB free space.
Still not enough disk space.

Would it help to remove the whole game and redownload from scratch?

I see, thx.
So just so I understand what's happening here, the 2.3 GB mentioned by Steam is only the amount *to be downloaded*, but there's no way to accurately estimate the amount necessary to actually apply the patch?

You need alot more space, old windows warning was10%, but terabyte drive should have atleast 5% free space, disk will suffer in speed then get that low. or you could say all under 100gb will be a issue, what if you get game update and save game issue ( most older games ) that use own folder. ( and you are lucky that steam stop it, if that was OS drev sametime you could get into trouble even start windows again ) if all free space is used.

you should take this warning serious, ask any server or domain specilist they will give you same note.

@Iceira I appreciate your warning, however as I stated in my OP, this is a secondary drive by the letter E, not the system drive at letter C. Its total capacity is 100 GB, altogether.

Looks like the last resort remains my only option.
I hope redownloading the whole 35 GB-ish after every regular weekly maintenance won't have to be in force, otherwise I'll have to abandon the game as much as I regret doing so.
