steam will stop to work on windows 8.1 in 0 days
I find that it is absolutly unbelievable to force people to use windows 10 and upper.

In particular while Most of the actual steam libary is filled with small games that could even work on windows XP and 1Ghz computer.

Also most of the steam library includes games from 2014 and older: it doesnt make any sense to buy old games and then block their use on old computers.

Thats really sad and disapointing,

I hope that valve will change their mind and add full compatibility and retrocompatibility.

Is there a way to stop steam from upgrades?

That's literally impossible. Sorry.
An update to Windows 10 can not physically brick a Computer.

Obviously you are there to hijack the discussion and destroy it from the inside, filling it with absolute nonsense.

I gonna mute you in order to save a lot of time

Sorry, but that's not how this works.
I do not sabotage discussions.
That's very rude, sir.

Yeah. It's literally not possible for an update to do that to a computer.
AT all.

Guys just chill out, im using Windows 7 too, before the date comes (like some days earlier) just block the Steam updates and be over it, Windows XP users can still connect to Steam this way and use the servers from the new client to download games (after adding TLS 1.2 support to the OS).

Also i would like to mention that there is an Extended Kernel which allows fricking Windows Vista to run latest Steam, and an Extended Kernel has also been made for Windows 7 (it's still in early stages, but it allows you to run the latest version of some QT6 based programs like QBit-torrent and OBS)

No need to worry, just block updates, and when the community makes such tools just use them and get the latest version of Steam.

IF for some very rare reason the Steam client for Win 7 and 8 becomes incompatible with Valve Servers immediately after the shutdown (i guess if they really want to screw users over, it didn't even happen to XP client so i don't think it will happen here) just create a Dual Boot partition, i have Windows 7, 11, and Linux Mint all on the same PC.

As far as i know other launchers (i wont mention them you can guess them) didnt act like that.

So, what will happen next?

Drivers, more software, more apps.. sooner or later you need to switch..

But I agree, Steam could develop their own secured browser.. I would prefer Firefox of course..

I wonder why all game launchers use Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF)[en.wikipedia.org].. To call out the big ones: Steam, BattleNet, Epic, Ubisoft, Origin or what it is called today, all launchers.. even GOG uses CEF. So it is not just Steam but everyone else.. All "Unity"-based games wont work anymore!

Whenever the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) stops supporting Windows 7 in 2024, all launchers wont work anymore, not just Steam.. it is not Steam's fault in this case, blame Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF).[bitbucket.org]

People blamed DICE (Developers) for this BF2042 title, but it was all Electronic fArt's (Publisher) fault.. as an analogy example.

Also there EVER EXISTED (inofficial) game patches to run older games on latest machines. Remember Dungeon Keeper/2 from 1995 and 1999? How many (inofficial) XP patches and later Vista/7 patches got released for it? How many (inofficial) patches got released for other games to run them on latest hardware and in 1080p?

And for today we can even talk about patches for 4K.. and if there are "cool" Devs around, they even update/patch these games their own.. and/or release "remastered" or "remake" games. The Anno series, Dead Space, Command & Conquer, Blood, Duke Nukem 3D...

I can even play the original Dungeon Keeper 1 on Windows 11 via KeeperFX.. GOG version works surely too on Windows 11, but I prefer the original files with KeeperFX.

If a handful of (Steam) games wont run on W10/11, damn, download them DRM-free from "somewhere".. And DRM-free games even exist on Steam which can be easily "patched".

Everything is possible nowadays, especially in IT.

PENDING CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST STEAM TO ENSURE A FULL REFUND FOR ALL PURCHASES EVER MADE THAT THEY ARE REMOVING ACCESS TO.

You literally don't even have a case.
Binding arbitration clause nullifies a class action lawsuit instantly.

Now you're forced to go to Seattle and talk to Valve's lawyers directly on your own dime. :P

Oh, and you agreed to all of this when you signed up for your account.
and EULA and TOS have always been held up in court.

Filing a suit doesn't mean it'll be granted. You shouldn't forget about option 3: Getting nothing.

It only fix partially the issue.

People should be able to access every feature of the launcher

As far as i know other launchers (i wont mention them you can guess them) didnt act like that.

It fixes the issue completely, i know that we wont receive any Steam client updates and new features (it sucks) but it is what it is, blame Google with Chromium.

The client which has blocked auto-updates will work for a pretty long time, when it stops working just hope that the Extended Kernel is out and we can use that to get latest Steam, if not then only solution would be to use another OS (Linux or newer Windows), but as i said no need to """Upgrade""", just make a dual-boot partition.

I need to use Windows 7 for 3D-Vision gaming, it works really badly in Windows 10 (glaring / reflections issue, bad performance and de-sync probably because of Fullscreen optimization) and not to mention that you need a very old build of Windows 10 to even get the 3D Driver to work (Windows 10 1803 or older), it doesn't work at all with Windows 11.

Also Uplay / Ubisoft Connect dropped support for Windows 7, but they took it back after the R6 forums were completely filled with users complaining about it.

Lets say i want to install steam version "last before support ends on w7 and 8" on a computer with windows 7, in 2025

How will i do that? Is there any way to get a specific installer of steam launcher?

I dont think so, but if you have a good idea lemme know

You can do it very easily, just copy your Steam directory from your Windows 7 PC to the other computer and that's it, when you launch it you will get asked about installing "Steam Services", give a "Yes" on the Administrator prompt and you're set.

Valve has no reason to find solutions for 1% of all their users.

The same people yelled and screamed when XP support was dropped.
Nothing happened.

People must update.

Download and clean install the latest Steam Client before 2024,without any games installed. Then simply ZIP the whole Steam directory. Unzipping this "build" is like installing a "Legacy" edition. But before going online, you need to setup some cfg-files in Steam to block some connections.
