Family sharing not working even though the person sharing is offline
As the title says, I will randomly be kicked out of games that I'm playing through friends/family, even though they're not even online or at their computer.

I'm literally sitting here waiting as I'm writing, for Dark Souls 3 to be available to play, when right under the "Purchase" button it says "Last online 50 minutes ago". Is family sharing broken, or am I just stupid? Because I thought that games were supposed to be available as long as the person you're playing them through isn't playing anything.

I suspect Dark Souls 3 is not shareable ... Not all games are.

Not all games are family shareable.

But I've played it for 13 hours through family share, and other games also show up as not available

It is. It was only temporarily removed in 2020.

I mean, the simplest explanation is that the people you share with ARE at their computer and playing but have set their status to "offline" in Steam.
Then they will show as offline on the profile but they could still be playing right then.

Another possibility is that the persons you share with are sharing with more then just you and someone else is using the library at that time. If its someone that is not on your friend list you wont see that they are playing.

While that does sound like the best explanation, I have asked the person who's sharing with me if he's sharing with anyone else, and he isn't. I also just spoke with him about this, and he confirmed that his computer isn't even on. So I'm still very confused about this whole situation.

Did you figure out what it is? I'm having the same issue as you.

Sadly I didn't, so I ended up just folding and buying the game a week or two after making the OP.

My issue was that my friend wasnt playing any game at all but was online with steam running on the background not even the app was open

Sound plausible. Steam is a service and it keeps on running until one exits the service. Closing the program window does not stop the service.
