Clicking pinned Steam icon doesn't close Windows 11 start menu?
Having an odd issue with the Start Menu since doing a clean install of W11 Pro a few days ago (fully updated with the latest patch on 22H2), and I can't figure it out.

Every icon on my start menu grid, when clicked, will cause the start menu to go away, except for the Steam icon. if i click Steam, the start menu stays open. Steam will load normally, but the start menu doesn't automatically close itself. This is really annoying because I keep assuming the click hasn't registered and trying to run the application multiple times.

I've tried deleting the shortcut from the Start Menu system folders and recreating it manually. Also tried reinstalling Steam. Tried sfc /scannow and dism, even another clean install of Windows.

Such a minor issue but it's really bugging me because I can't fix it. :sts_defect:

I don't have a great answer to your specific question, but I pin Steam to my taskbar and click it there instead of in my Start menu. Maybe that's a compromise you're willing to make?

Or... maybe you can create a batch file that starts Steam? e,g.:
START C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe

Good suggestions, thank you. It's just so odd, and I've not heard of anyone having similar problems so I don't know if it's just a new issue or some weird bug with the way I set up my pc.

This is a new computer with AMD processor/chipset, which is the reason I did a clean install, and it's only only thing I can think of that's changed since this issue appeared. I can't think why that would cause such a specific and irritating issue though.

Just wanted to update this to say that I resolved this issue. I noticed that the Steam client was also taking a while to load, sometimes 10-20 seconds. While researching that, I saw reports that disabling the AMD iGPU in device manager fixed the slow loading, and it worked immediately for both issues.

Ultimately I just disabled the AMD iGPU completely in the BIOS, so the problem is now completely fixed. Worth noting if anyone else is having strange behaviour or loading issues with the Steam client. :sts_merchant:

And yeah, after disabling AMD GPU in the device manager this annoying problem went away.
Sadly, I'm on the laptop so completely disabling it kinda messes with GPU balancing system.

Honestly, I would think that it's Windows fault - no program should prevent the FREAKING START MENU FROM CLOSING regardless of what time it takes to start.

I have no idea where you found that information, but thank you 100 times over. That was driving me completely nuts.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
