Can someone tell me exactly what Steam backup codes do?

I was just wondering that the backup codes do. Do they let you change your password? Or do they just let you transfer your Steam Guard to a new phone? Thanks!

They allow you to log on to your account when you have steam guard on, but no access to the app.

You need to know your current password to change.

Otherwise, a reset is required.

New ones revoke old.
NEVER give away the backup codes. As with normal codes they can do much more than they should

yes it acts like any other autehnticator code, and as such it can be used to do things like change your password, or remove an authenticator from your account

Generating a new set of codes invalidates any previous ones.
