Corrupted game file, validating loop , Fix .
Hello,

I recently had an issue were a game I was updating had a corrupted file that caused the download to start, stop and then validate game files repeatedly for hours with no progress. this happened only to this one particular game and none other.

Searching online for many methods to attempt to fix this did not help, and i did not want to completely redownload the game (limited bandwidth usage reasons) but I managed to fix it by one desperate method that I would like to share with you, maybe it helps one person with the same issue.

• Clear download cash (this step alone usually fixes issues for most people, not in this case for me sadly)

• Make sure steam is closed, copy game files to a new folder, at this point a file will not be able to be copied, this is your corrupted file, skip it and keep going with the copying processes.

• Go back to the original game file folder and delete its content (you can choose to cut/paste it somewhere else if you want a return point)

• Go the copied new folder with the uncorrupted files and copy it's content to the (now empty) original game file.

• Open steam and start downloading.

if you follow the steps, it won’t hurt as you still have all the files and can return to starting point anytime. Also, make sure if it works to delete the extra files in the new folder and recycle bin as not to waste valuable gaming disk space.

Hope this helps someone <3

Thats why remove folder is born or rename it to gamefolder name to game.old
then you save time on copy you dont need and delete.

and ask any helper or it experts, they know this, and you forget any modded content can cause grief to a gamer, and why steam validate can fail to do a checkup.

we are not after you here, its more pro ways then you learn there is faster cut through the ways other explan it. ( and yes you need skills and experience over years maybe depend on who you learn such ways from or as here now read it, if you even understand it. )

then you learn them tips and tricks you get it, ( most learn this frompast modded game that somehow have issue with other mods ) and noone elsde had a clue in the old days.

game folde name ( game.old ) you just move content to other name and dont have to copy and delete it, and i bet you wish someone told or learn you this before, it takes time to learn them pro ways. ( if we can call them that ) other windows or DOS user will say i have done this always, thats my point here.

and we see same mistake then ppl reset steam they delete content then its not needed.
taleast you did not delete it before you made a backup , so you know the the consequence of it.

and it still end up with be happy someone tell you a diffrent faster way.
because who will teach you that, thats right noone.
you need ppl that gives a crap in what other thinks.

and DOS master from 40 years ago could have told you this. "RENAME"

An easier way would be to look at the logs.
Go to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\logs\content_log.txt
Then Ctrl + F, and type corrupt, or the game that is failing to update.
It will show which file and where it is that is corrupted.
Just delete it and then run validate again. Hasn't failed me yet.
