Account flagged on Marketplace/Steam Store
My account was flagged this morning when I added $5 to my steam wallet, intending to grab a couple trading cards on the marketplace to finish up a badge. It immediately said I needed to verify my payment method per this message.

"You've recently funded your Steam Wallet using an unverified credit card that has had a recent increase in use. You can attempt to verify the funds now or wait until the restriction is automatically removed.

I had no problem doing so, and my account is fine now, but I have no idea what could've caused this to happen. The card I used was the only one saved on my account, and I've been using it since May this year when I switched to this card, for both Market and Store transactions with no issue. This wasn't the first time it's been used, and I've used it regularly since May with no issues prior, nor have I had a significant increase in usage lately compared to normal.

I just want to understand what caused this to happen and how it can be avoided in the future, and the help articles are barebones and not informative, besides saying it shouldn't happen again on this specific card.

I don't think you're going to be able to find any information on the specific cause for a card getting flagged, because then it would defeat the purpose of flagging the card to begin with as it would give you the information needed to avoid that happening. It could be that you have made a lot of purchases (even if you believe you haven't used it more than usual), or it could be that you have used it on other accounts (either your own accounts or perhaps you've paid for a family member's games with your card).

Regardless you won't be able to find out specifically why for the reason I mentioned. There's no reason to stress about it though especially if you're able to verify it.

It's entirely possible (actually rather likely) that the error message points to the cause. Take that "increased usage" literally, something out there, outside of your sphere of influence, has made it so that particular payment method (that bank, for example) sees increased usage.

Increased usage may or may not be a sign of potential issues related to scams. Dealing with online scams isn't a precise science. Accept what's going on as a part of reality you have no control over.

I've always used PayPal to buy on Steam, you can use as many different cards as you like but as long as you're using the same PayPal account Steam doesn't seem to care.

there is one way to check

1) go to your recent purchase history

it will show you a complete list of purchases that you did with your Credit Card/Debit Card.

it will also show unauthorized purchases as well on your Steam Account.

if that occurs, then it means your Steam Account is being Compromised.

i also have a question to ask you

i) when was the Steam Account you currently using is being Created?????
