Network settings to maximise download speed
Does anyone have any tips on how to maximise Steam's download speed?

I have 1gig fibre, and can download at ~110MB/sec from most sources, however steam hovers around 50-60MB/sec

Just wondering if anyone knows of any tips or tricks (other than the obvious steam settings etc.) to maximise the throughput? I've searched high and low and have tried so many things already but cannot seem to figure this out.

Thanks

You can also make sure Local Transfers in the settings is turned off. Some have reported it slowing down speeds a little bit.

Thats not the case , that is like a validate with a local transfer and it should be faster if you have 2gb networl bundle aka share local line or 10g card then your pc is getting maximum and you will have other bottleneck on own system. ( but yeah you are right in one things ppl need to know the diffrence in local transfer with server content checksum is not same as a DL. ( you still need to have a good LAN network ( wifi user cant do that ) so yeah you are right but so are they wifi sux and has always done so , then you send both ways in wifi you reduce traffic, but now we are over in network under standing, im sure you know this cSg|mc-Hotsauce, but you dont explan they are wrong so now you are wrong here, doi not turn off lan transfer it should still beat internet transfer unless you are so many onlije local that you to many online and dont even have the bandwide in the first place.. ( 4 person share a 1 gb line worst case senarion with wifi only. )

If i and other dont explan this, and still think wifi is great, then you will never learn it.
pro games dont play on wifi, end of debat.

even windows has lan transfer in update now.
now every pc on own lan dont have to use the wan lines, and you ppl think turn lan transfer off that is a crime in itself, you should not do it. you only hurt yourself.

and be happy someone tell you this.

It has, on multiple occasions.

yeah say alot about ppl own network. ( QoS and other limitation that not network issue that traffic managment issue )

just wait to ppl have 10g netcard as common over 1gb wan line then this debat is will be seen as a joke.

dont forget we other have seen all this before then it was 10mb/100mb or 100mb(1Gb line, nothing new in this. ( and multi packet from several source is old news now you do it from lan )

Many old windows user has seen all this before. or internet users even.

no problem is ppl own network. ( this is so well tested that its a gain no matter how you think its faster hen turn off, its not , 2 user on wan line and you will reduce wan line to nothing on a wifi connection.

and lan transfer in top of this wil feel like a pain, its stil wifi there is the problem here, ISP dont use wifi they are on fiber its end customer that use wifi. ( thats the problem here, CPE )

and its here be happy someone bother to explan this, ask own ISP they know this. they should understand network to its CPE.

It is something with how the client itself handles the setting, not the users own system or network. And there were far more issues with it a few months ago.

What dont work as intended dont add up with turn off a booster technologic, point is turn that option off is a NO GO, its so well tested that most lan speed is faster then wan speed, atm it seem even, but that can change very fast then ppl can afford past 1gb network on lan side.

its okay cSg|mc-Hotsauce ppl own problem then they do it.
