Cannot download games to SSD - Disk Write Error
Hoping somebody can help me out with this.

I just bought a Samsung 870 EVO 1TB SSD in order to play Baldur's Gate III with less lag/asset pop-in.

No matter what I try, the game stops downloading at about 200mbs and fails with a 'Disk Write Error'. After going through the content logs, the only two errors I can see are "failed to update ownership ticket (Access Denied)" and "failed to get AppData for WinUI". I can't seem to find any info on these errors specifically, does anybody know what I can do to fix this?

For the record I have ensured my SSD is formatted to NTFS and have set user permissions to have full access.

I have also tried:

- Clearing the download cache
- Deleting and reformatting the drive
- Disabling my firewall/antivirus protection
- Running Steam in administrator mode

Any and all advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

Have you tried downloading any other games into it? I had some similar issue that would only happen with the Witcher 3. If it happens with every game I would try if other launchers e.g epic and also see if I got similar issues with big files in the disk. If that's the case its probably defective

Download Samsung Magician and check if there are any firmware updates available.
Also if you can, try replacing SATA cable.

Thanks for the replies. I do have Samsung Magician and appear to be up-to-date with firmware.

I just tried downloading another game that's much smaller (under 1gb) and it did the same thing. Stopped downloading at around 200mbs before giving me a disk write error. Would the SATA cable be the issue if I'm able to move other files to the drive without issue?

assuming you have enough disk space and that isnt the problem, then...

you could try using steam to fix itself?

create a new text document and save as - steam service fixer.bat

replace drive letter with your own (in string below)

copy and paste the string from below onto said text document

echo G:\steam\bin\steamservice.exe /repair
G:\steam\bin\steamservice.exe /repair
exit

then right click on the new .bat file and run as admin, then after its done you can try downloading/updating a game again

if that doesnt work, then the issue is either the sata port on the motherboard, or the sata cable.
