New PC, no game save.
I copied over Destiny 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 after saving them on my NAS to install them on a new PC.
I had also backed up my entire Program folders completely on the NAS.

The cloud saves for Cyberpunk are in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata

I located the saved Cyberpunk folder on my NAS and it contains a file called remotecache.VDF and it's 79KB in size.

I go to the new PC and look in the same folder and there's the same file but it's 1KB so I copy and paste the 79KB backed up file into the folder, replacing the 1KB file. All fine so far but when I start Cyberpunk and look for the saves, there are none.

If I close the game and browse to the folder on my C drive - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata, the remotecache.VDF file is 1KB again.

Is remotecache.VDF the right file for cloud save data?

Nope. Refer to PCGamingWiki as to where saves are.

Yeah that shows the actual game save location, which I haven't saved to NAS, but what does the cloud sync save and where does that save to? As far as I'm aware, it saves the last manual and automatic saves to the cloud. That's all I need back.
If cloud saves aren't in the cloud, what's the point of them?

By the way, great link. I've never seen that site before.

Cloud saves download automatically if you start the game the first time on the new PC.
You dont really need to copy over any files for it to work.
Cloud saves are purely linked to your online Steam account.

You can even manage all your cloud saves here and download indivdual saves if you like:

Magic stuff. I don't know why the saves never downloaded themselves, first time I've seen that page on Steam too.

OK, downloaded that file, put it in %userprofile%\Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077
and there's still no saves when I open the game.

Dont know why to be honest, i switched PC since i got Cyberpunk and Steam just downloaded the cloud saves after a reinstall on the new PC and i could continue playing.
No clue why its not working for you.

Edit: One question, you are on the same profile that played the game previously?
Not a family share account or similar? Because the Cyberpunk save files are account specific and wont show up for other Steam user profiles when they load the game.

Yeah, it's on this account. I basically copied the program files game folder across from my old PC to my new one. I think I'm going to have to get the old hard drive and try and grab the folder off of there.

That's not where saves are for most games.

I know, but since Cyberpunk 2077 had cloud saves I thought I wouldn't need the %appdata% folder.

If PCGamingWiki doesn't display, or not correctly pointing to correct spot where save go you have to manually figure this out.

1. Download your saves put each game into their own folder so don't mix them up when working with multiple games having said issue. Then ensure your game cloud save is enable, not the globe cloud save, the per game cloud save setting is enable for the game, actually want both enable to be clear.

2. Start game up, make save, alt + tab don't close game you see why at 4. then find out where that save location is placed.

3. Once found game location, copy your game saves you downloaded, or had backup from other drive, then replace your new save with your downloaded/backup save.

4. Close game then this will sync with cloud save.
