Is it possible to use free DLC family share through refunding?
So I recently started playing Dead Cells through Family Share. My friend owns all DLC including the free Rise of the Giant DLC. Now free DLC will not be shared and cannot be activated if you do not own the game, which is frustrating. The DLC is activated on his account as well.

Can I technically buy the game, activate and install the free DLC, then refund the game and play the game through family share with the free DLC?

Does refunding a game remove free DLC from your account? And if not, are you able to use them through family share?

You could replicate this, I think, with out engaging in refund shenanigans, by having your friend zip up his game folder and sending that to you and extracting it to your install location, and then you'd have the free DLC on your system.

If it worked you'd have a workaround. If not, then the act of buying the game, downloading the DLC and refunding it probably won't work either because you'd effectively be in the same boat at the end.

Either just having the files is good enough, or the limits of Family Sharing require you to own the game yourself. If you like the game so much that you want the DLC, maybe you should consider buying it.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried this actually and it does not work, as it tells me I need to own the DLC. I thought maybe it's just about the activation on your account. Anyways I just don't have that kind of money to buy the game and all of it's DLC right now.

The workaround is for you the borrower to remove the game through support so you can borrow your friends game + DLC. The removal is reversible at any time. The steps are...

Find game here... https://help.steampowered.com/en/

Click on game, choose "I want to permanently remove..."

To restore it at a later date...

Find game here... https://help.steampowered.com/en/

Click on game, choose "It's not in my library..."

Choose "Restore."

Have you even read my question? I don't own the game and you cannot borrow free DLC's.
