REMOTE DOWNLOAD STATUS: Unable to reach your PC
I have been using steam for years on my PC. Yesterday tried to play a game but it wouldn't acknowledge the click. I signed in to steam and when I go to my games tab it says REMOTE DOWNLOAD STATUS: Unable to reach your PC.

So even though I am logged in to steam I can't open any games.

I have tried it with my Bitdefender off and also downloaded steam again a couple of times. I haven't changed anything since last playing a couple of days ago.

Very strange and since I'm not a techie im at a bit of a loss

Look if you have a white little triangle pointing downward next to your PLAY button for a game.
If yes, click on it and select "this machine".
Could be your PC is set to stream games from another PC to your current client instead of using the local files.
Have you used your Steam account on another PC/laptop recently?

Alternatively you could also try deactivating "remote play" in the client settings under the same category name.

There isn't a play button. When I go to the tab with my user name. Then go to Games. It lists my games. At the top of all the games listed it shows this ..

REMOTE DOWNLOAD STATUS: Unable to reach your PCLearn more

To remotely download games to your Steam Client, your PC must be awake with an internet connection and you’ll need to be signed in. Read the FAQ

You did not answer the question if you used Steam on another device recently.
Because that message means the Steam client is trying to establish a network connection between those 2 systems you used Steam on to download/update files.
If one of the systems is not online you get that error.

I just checked my laptop. I connected to steam and downloaded the game I wanted to play. I get a different message on my PC now.

Steam is a rip off they take your money and give you nothing in return. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Thanks. I will use it also. I think user Ogami might have the solution but haven't heard from him recently

I recently got a new PC as my old one stopped working. Now I can't access my games from the steam account as its telling me my old PC is not connected and I can't do the remote download. Is there any way around this?

I'm not worried about the saved data, I just want to be able to access the games again. Thanks.

Let's see. Open your account details page, check the license history there.
