What I did was simply put them in a folder called whatever to separate them from the others.
My profile number isn't in the userdata folder but I found the folder that has 760 and config. I'll copy those and see what happens

From reading to first part of the post, it seems like this only saves customized parts of the games and not the games themselves. Am I misreading it?
Doing that will add the game names to your library lists. If the games aren't in the same exact place so the links are correct they'll be a dead link.
Big Picture mode > Menu > Library > Non-Steam
Closest I've got in desktop mode: create a Dynamic Collection with filter 'Installed Locally', set Sort by to 'Size on Disk' and the non-Steam will be grouped at the bottom under No Size.
