Can't launch Steam client after UI update
After the recent update my Steam client starts up but only a black screen is displayed. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it with no avail. Can anybody recommend a fix? The PC has Windows 7 to run older games, could it be the reason?

Can you access the steam tasks menu by right-clicking either on the steam icon on the windows task bar or the steam icon in the windows system tray?

If so, go to "interface" and DISABLE "Enable GPU accelerated rendering in web views (requires restart)". The steam client will prompt you to restart it. This may fix your problem.

...

I have just had a problem with the latest steam client update where the Store/LIbrary/Community/<Profile> pages would either just be black, or would "flicker" between black and normal at random intervals every few seconds, and would respond very slowly, taking minutes to update to mouse clicks. Disabling GPU acceleration fixed the problem for me. I am on Windows 7.

I've been running into something I think is similar. When I launch Steam, at best I get the window showing new deals and special offers, but it won't open the UI. I can get access to Big Picture in the system tray, but even when I try opening the settings to do anything it shows up as a small box that I'm unable to modify the size of.

I've tried reinstalling Steam, checking my graphics drivers, checking my drives, and nothing seems to be resolving this.

If there was a topic more like mine elsewhere though, I'd appreciate being directed to it.

thanks
