I had to reinstall steam and now steam doesn't recognize the drive with the steamapps pre-installed on it
Reinstalled steam, old secondary drive with games installed when selected to add storage, creates a new game folder instead of noticing the game files already sitting there. Even when I select the folder specifically I get an error "Steam Library folder is not empty" like no ♥♥♥♥ its not empty I'm selecting it because the games are installed there already I don't want to have to delete 2 TBs of games to redownload 2TB's of games.

It has being a while since i have had to re-add a folder but as far as i remember:

Do not point directly to the folder containing the games.

For example if you have the following:

E drive > GamesSteam > steamapps > common (games are inside common)

Simply point to the first folder GamesSteam when re-adding.

If you are still having an issue, I just spent an hour figuring out the same thing.

In Setting > Storage, select the + to add new library

In the drop down menu select "Let me choose another location" then click Add

From there you can navigate to your existing library folder.

When added, remember to make your new (existing) library your default if that's what you are wanting.

Hope that helps.

worse comes to worse, juggle some file names around.

1) Assuming you have the install on D:\Games, change it do D:\Gamez (or anything that's easy to remember)
2) Add D:\Games to Steam
3) Exit Steam (not just clicking the X on the top right, you want Steam > Exit )
4) Delete D:\Games
5) Rename D:\Gamez back to D:\Games
6) Start Steam
