Steam controller ignoring keyboard inputs for specific game

I am trying to bind W to a button on my controller for apex legends. But for some reason it doesn't work. Binding keyboard inputs to the desktop controller configuration works but when I try for apex legends it does not want to work.

I have tried resetting my config, making a new one, trying other configs, deleting my autoexec, deleting apex legends steam options.

I am able to bind controller keys to other controller keys. For example binding controller button A to controller button B. But when I try to bind any controller keys to keyboard inputs it doesn't work. And by doesn't work I mean it just ignores that keyboard input and does nothing.

So if I bind controller button B to keyboard button 1 for example. When I press controller button B it ignores keyboard button 1 and does nothing. It does not execute whatever I have bound to controller button B in game either.

If there is any information you need, please respond and I'll give it to you. Please help!

It may be something on the config side or maybe the game doesn't accept mixed input. Is there an in-game setting to select input device? How does the game respond if you use the controller and then switch to keyboard? How is it if you use them simultaneously?

I can use the controller and keyboard simultaneously. There is no in-game setting to select input device. I know for a fact that the thing I am trying should work. There are a lot of people who play on controller use keyboard bindings on controller so I know that the game accepts mixed input.

I finally tried things out (have low bandwidth and the long DL was putting me off...) and it seems OK for me. Just went as far as the initial starting area for training. Tested with a Steam Controller and DualSense, wired.

So your game doesn't react to the KB bindings. That also mean the prompts don't switch to M/KB?

The Steam overlay is accessible?

I’ve just ran into this problem for the first time with a game and it is driving me batty! So frustrating. Not picking up Steam Controller keyboard bindings.
