Why cant i go offline in the friendslist when iam in a game?

Whats the point of closing the game -> going offline -> and restarting the game?

How Do I Appear Offline on Steam Even When I'm Online?
Open Steam.
Select Friends from the menu at the top of the screen.
Select View Friends List. This is where you can see what your appearance is set to currently.
Once you're in your Friends List, press the drop-down menu beside your Steam username.
Press Invisible.

Sorry. I'm not sure what help you asking for.. You want to appear Offline for your friends, or you want to go play online then go offline without restarting the game?

Or maybe you know how it's work and you don't need help, but just want to say how you not happy with how it's work?

Irrelevant. It should just be possible regardless.

And sometimes, people don't want others to session join their games.

Understanding the ultimate aim for wanting a particular feature might help as there may already exist other means of achieving that aim. As to preventing others from session joining games, wouldn't switching to offline mode also cut off all players already in-game?

Edit: Okay, I think I understand now that the OP is talking about *appearing* offline so that other friends cannot join in mid-game.

I am asking why this features was implemented, or if its a bug.
Yes invisible works too but iam always using complete friendlist offline, so how comes that feature is blocked when iam in a main menu of a game.

Also. Afaik invisible mode still opens and shows chat messages. In offline i see new messages when i want to see them and answer to them. I might miss messages because i was distracted in invisible mode

How is this still a thing? I've set my self to Invisible while in game to read some messages from when I was offline and now I can't set myself to Offline from the overlay.
Seems like a bug that was missed.
