Steam redeem link hack
So one of my friend account got hacked and the hacked account sent me a link to redeem 50$ steam wallet, fortunately I ask my friend who's the owner of the account and he confirmed that his account has just got hacked, my question is it okay for me to just look at the chat but not click the link?

You can look at the chat. Just don't click any links and don't give away your Steam credentials.

Tell your friend to secure his account!

Take the following steps to secure your account:

1. Scan for malware. https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Check that the email and phone number on the Steam account are still yours.
3. Deauthorize all other devices. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
4. Change passwords from a clean computer.
5. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App. https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
6. Revoke the API key (there should be no key). https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey

You're fine, as long you don't download & install sketchy things randomly, keep your web browser up to date, and don't login to random sites that ask for your login info, you're good.

Just looking at your chat is safe, but interacting with the links clicking on them, you have to be aware what you do.

Scammers will run any story such as you have pending ban, vote for my team, you won something, and so on. These are common scams that are run to try trick you into logging into their phishing sites. They even try impersonate as support, or claim to be admin/mod, and even send you fake images/gifs/videos to try scare you into do what they say. So be aware they cant do anything to you if never give them anything to begin with, you can report them.

Often scammers use people stolen accounts to contact others, so they don't really use their own made accounts, then they repeat their scam with the next victim, and do it all over again.

It can be coincidence. Ignore does the same. Blocking is for needed cases. I never needed to block someone after i ignored.

There is no direct safety gained by blocking instead of ignoring.

As long as it makes me feel secured why not?
